Attractions
In and around Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Old Town Alexandria
Architectural Digest named Old Town’s King Street one of the world's most beautiful streets. It has historical sites, restaurants, shopping, and the Freedom House Museum.
George Washington's Mount Vernon
I cannot tell a lie: eight miles south of Old Town Alexandria lies the most visited historic estate in America: George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
National Portrait Gallery
Come for Barack and Michelle, stay for beautiful, immersive portraits of the artists, politicians, scientists, athletes, activists, and performers who form our American identity.
National Museum of African American History
The crown jewel of the Smithsonian museums. Every exhibit is powerful, provoking, and essential. The bottom half of the museum is dedicated to history, the top half to culture. Make time for both!
National Museum of Natural History
Great museum for little kids, especially the mammals exhibit. Nate’s favorite spot in Washington is the Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals. See the Hope Diamond!
The National Mall
America’s Front Yard! It’s not just the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial. There are treasures everywhere! Cross the river to visit Arlington National Cemetery.
The Tidal Basin
It’s a little early in the year for the famous Cherry Blossom trees but never too early to see monuments to Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson.
Iwo Jima Memorial
Honors those who have given their lives in service of the United States Marine Corps. The memorial recalls one of America’s proudest moments and the commanding vista is one of the best panoramic photo opportunities in the city.
